Excellent Appliance, but... one flaw

This is my second Nuwave. I use it constantly. It is especially good for preparing meals for one to two people. It does everything a conventional oven will do, only better, faster, and with substantially less electricity. Items I would once use a microwave to prepare because of the time savings, I now regularly prepare in the Nuwave Oven.However, it is too air tight. NO moisture escapes. That has its advantages and disadvantages. Items are moist and delicious, but if you like the crispiness a standard oven creates, expect less crispiness with the Nuwave. That, though, is a minor, almost insignificant tradeoff, compared with the valuable features. (One comment to the manufacuturer: What numbskull decided to put the allegedly "peel-off" sticker on the see-through ring? It does not peel off easily at all. There are a dozen glues you could have used that would cause it to peel off entirely, instantly. Instead, you went with some cheap, nearly permanent sticker that takes forever to get off. I have ALWAYS said engineers and manufacturers should be "sentenced" to use the appliances they create and produce for at least ten years.)

A real life saver

We are redoing our kitchen floor and had to remove the oven to make room for a new built in type that is taking forever. So, I purchased this oven to allow me to prepare meals in the meantime. It really is wonderful. I was very skeptical. It cooks really fast on high so I tend to cook longer - on a lower temperature - you can always cook more than less. It's great for heating up stuff too - stuff that is usually trashed e.g. leftover eggrolls or pizza. It does take up a fair amount of space on the kitchen counter but it's well worth it - this unit is something I should have bought a long time ago. It makes a GREAT 2nd oven - for holidays like keeping things hot or even cooking the turkey so to free up the regular oven. It's definitely well worth the money - I look at it and wonder how I was able to cook without it so well before. It does clean up nice too - just warm soapy water for the drip pan (don't scour) and wipe down the rest with a damp soapy cloth and it's good to go meal after meal. I wash the dome lid weekly - just in case the smell of BBQ chicken and chocolate cake - don't go well. If you have the extra money - definitely buy it and if you need a good wedding shower gift - this would be good for that too. It's also good for a college kid or a single person.

BUY IT - Actually Works As Advertised

I have had the NuWave Pro Digital Oven for three weeks now. I have cooked the items listed below using cooking times on the Quick and Easy Cooking Guide for temperature setting on High.COOKING (no oil needed)- Cornish Hen (fresh & frozen)- Steak (frozen)- Lamb Chops (fresh)- Fish - Opah, Haddock (fresh)- BBQ Chicken Thighs (fresh)- Chicken Wings (fresh)- Ribs (fresh)- Roast Potatoes- Roast Veggies - Broccoli, Snap Peas, Carrots, Bell Peppers, Mushrooms, Zucchini, Brussel Sprouts, AsparagusThe meat and fish came out moist. The veggies cook better on the 2 inch rack than the 4 inch rack. While the NuWave cooks frozen food well, I still prefer to plan ahead and marinate my meat in advance, but having the ability to cook from frozen is a nice bonus.CLEANINGEasy to clean if you soak the racks in water right away. Grease drips into the liner pan. Food does not splatter much so the transparent dome can be wiped clean. Power head does not seem to get dirty from the cooking.NOISE LEVELThe NuWave Oven is very very quiet when cooking.SMELLFood smell is self contained. Does not create much odor at all during cooking, although it does depend on what you cook. For example, you will smell roasting garlic.CAUTIONSometimes a lot of hot steam comes out when lifting the dome. Make sure you use oven gloves and keep your face and arms away when opening the dome.OVERALL IMPRESSIONVery pleased that the NuWave Pro Digital Oven performs as advertised. Even my infomercial skeptic husband is impressed with the food quality. Love that I can cook a complete meal for two. No more pots and pans to clean. No more preheating and it uses less energy. For $125.95 delivered with extender ring it is a sound investment for my kitchen.NEGATIVEHearthware company charges too much for shipping the add on accessories so I recommend purchasing the package that includes the extender ring kit which comes with the 2" rack. Also, I bought another NuWave Oven as a gift for my brother. The documentation was missing from the box. Called NuWave customer service who told me that I would need to order the missing documentation from the website and pay for them which I thought was ridiculous considering they were missing. I hope I never need to use the warranty on my NuWave Oven as I would not expect good customer service from this company.

Wow! What a time saver!

I am unbelievably satisfied with this Steamer, Juicer. I cannot compare it to other steamer/juicers since this is the first one I have owned. I received the item two days ago. The first day, I processed 11 quarts of grape juice. This morning, I have already processed 8 quarts and will soon have three more quarts ready to go.If you have ever gone through the process of cooking grapes and then straining them, you will love this product! It has taken all the dread out of processing grapes.The base of the this unit is a good weight. The unit when assembled on the stove does not tip or seem unbalanced. The upper two units are lighter in weight than the base, because the base has extra thickness on the base to absorb and spread the heat. The unit seems well engineered in terms of the steam coming out only where you would expect it. The juice flows out of the reservoir just as you would expect. The glass top really does allow you to see how far down the fruit has cooked--the steam does not inhibit this. There is a about a cup and a half of liquid that is below the level of the line out, so you do have to tip the unit to get that juice out. I do this at the very end after I have removed the top section of the steamer. However, compared to the hassle of straining juice...this is not a hardship!I am excited to steam/juice some apples as well as pears in the next week.

Time to Juice!

Last year (2008) our little planting of grapes finally started producing. We borrowed a steam juicer and were able to can about 42 quarts of grape juice (along with eating a bunch and selling some). The juicer was so nice that we decided to purchase our own. This Norpro Juicer Steamer has many of the features we were looking for. Stainless steel. Good capacity. We also liked this unit because of the glass lid which allows you to know how the process is going without opening it up (one thing we didn't like with the steamer we borrowed last year). I also noticed that the handles are designed to remain cooler than the other unit - another good feature of this steamer.

Norpro KRONA Juicer Steamer

I was already familiar with juicer-steamers when I went looking for my own. This one is easy to clean and care for being stainless. The larger pan at the bottom means less chance of cooking off all the water. The glass lid makes it easy to check your progress on the fruit. The only downside is that the hose connection is mounted higher on this juicer than other models. It will retain a little more than a quart of juice below the hose which just means that you have tip it to get all the juice out after each batch. Not a big deal, but the first time you use it you think you aren't getting very much juice. I rate it a 4 only due to the hose positioning. Great product.

Steamer Juicer Really Works!

I was a bit skepitcal about the Norpro s/s steamer juicer and its price but read through the reviews and found them so favorable, I decided to give it a try. Specifically, I was looking for an easier method to extract juice from fruits and veggies for wine making, and I can say without a doubt, it's the best! It is heavy-duty; the top part held 4 gallon bags of currants and the bottom held 8 quarts of water. You do need to watch the pot so it doesn't dry out, but I had all the juice before I ran out of water. It's easy to clean and the glass lid allows you to look at the fruit as it's releasing its juices without lifting the lid. It was a bit pricey but excellent quality; it was worth every penny! And such a time saver. Thanks!

Norpro Krona steamer/cooker set 8 quarts

I have owned a set of Norpro Krona pots and pans for over seven years, getting heavy use each day. When I saw that there was now a 4-piece Steamer/Cooker Set, I immediately ordered one. The arrangement of steamer basket suspended by its rim over a pasta colander makes it ideal for steaming vegetables while simultaneously boiling pasta. The vegetables can be lifted out of the pot at any time by the folding wire handles on the steamer basket, allowing you to control their tenderness.I am unhappy with the new glass-and-steel lids that Norpro has begun using because they are not seamless nor as well-made as the older, solid-steel lids. Other than that, the Steamer/Cooker Set has performed exactly as expected and as always, with an entirely stainless steel construction, has been easy to clean either by hand or in the dishwasher. And yes, the triple-layer construction on the bottom of the pan diffuses the heat from my gas burners very effectively.

Great Steamer!

This steamer is wonderful. It has plenty of room, so I am able to steam several foods / vegeatables at the same time. Have used it almost daily since it arrived and it is easy to clean. I really like having a glass lid to see how the more delicate food or vegetable is doing.

Almost perfect, with one small problem

I love this pot. It is nearly perfect, and extremely useful! The one problem with the design is that the pasta insert does not go deep enough. The main pot is very deep, and the pasta insert seems to go less than half the way down. Because of this, to boil pasta in it you have to fill the water literally to the brim of the pot to have enough water to cover the pasta. This would not be an issue except this large pot takes FOREVER to boil that much water, which can be annoying. Wish the pasta insert were deeper, also you could cook more pasta at once if it were. Aside from that flaw, I love the pot. Very pleased with the quality.

WORKING GREAT FOR TWO PLUS YEARS NOW and STILL GOING

Love this oven. I don't know how much electricity has been saved since we hardly ever use our large oven any more. I would bet it's quite a bit, not to mention all the heat we keep out of the house. " Which is a good thing when you live in Florida ". We generally use this oven a couple of times a day, so it definitely has had plenty of use in the last 2+ years and it's still working like the day we got it. Nearly every thing I cook is done in here. Unlike a microwave oven, meat and chicken brown beautifully, also works great on garlic toast. It also can be set for a delayed start if needed. This works out just fine for the 2 of us, since we don't make large meals, even though this will hold a 8 or 9 lb roast or turkey " Larger if you order it with the extender ring ". This does cook quite a bit faster than a conventional oven, but not as fast as they say it does. And yes it does cook from frozen, it will take longer of course. There cooking chart tells you how long to cook individual items that are frozen or not frozen. All and all this oven has worked out exceptionally well for us, we would be lost without it.The digital timer can be set from minutes to hours, depending on your needs. The temperature can also be set from 190 deg. to 400 deg. When the timer turns off, the temperature will automatically reset to 190 deg and keeps your food at that safe temperature till you turn the oven off. A nice thing about this oven is the interior is lit up, so you can watch everything cooking. This oven is extremely easy to clean, there is a heavy glass liner on the bottom that comes out easily and is dishwasher safe. That goes for the stainless steel rack also. For most items we generally put aluminum foil on top of the rack, so cleanup is a snap we just throw the foil out. The clear plastic dome very rarely needs cleaning, since the food rarely splatters. But if it does, it's just a matter of wiping it out with a damp cloth. NOTE *** SEE MY PHOTOS UNDER CUSTOMER IMAGES ON PRODUCT PAGE :: THANX.About 3 1/2 years ago I bought the NuWave oven from a TV commercial. I cost about $130 with shipping the oven and a extra plastic gadget they give you, but have to pay shipping for. It stopped working in 13 months, one month after the guarantee was up. I liked the way it cooked, but decided to look for an alternative oven. I found this one for less money, without the extra gadget and free shipping. So far I am very well pleased with it, and would highly recommend it.UPDATE;::: It's over 3 years now and still working great.

Wow! This is a great oven.

There are many convection ovens out there that do an OK job. This stands head and shoulders above the rest. I have tried many including American Harvest (too delicate for long term use); Deni Glass Bowl (uneven heat left meals overcooked it parts and under cooked in others); NuWave (please proect me from the broken covers); and then finally the Smarter Image. My last go - with the Sharper Image - put me on a search. I was convinced there just had to be a competent, long-term oven that was well supported. Here it is. The Sharper Image broke within weeks. They delayed and delayed in fulfilling the warranty, so I bought the Morningware. I have now been using it for months. It is a champ. The food is evenly cooked (although I lace string potatoes around the outside of the grill - otherwise they would cook on the outer rim and not the middle). Yes, the replacement Smarter Image arrived. Too late. It is still unopened in its box. My wife and I use this oven several times a day. We are most impressed.

Morningware Halogen Oven

The Power Head failed after approximately 10 minutes, which required telephone calls and emails to the manufacturer to have it replaced. After a 7 day wait, a new powerhead arrived. There were no shipping costs for this. But that wasn't automatic. Initially, they wanted me to pay shipping. So it never hurts to ask (or insist), as my mother used to say!Since the replacement, I have used the oven several times and am quite satisfied with the results.

Townecraft?

I had a Townecraft home demonstation and thought it was wonderful. The salesman was great and really made me excited. Then came the price. I've bought cars for less than that! I started looking around for that same brand on auction sites and found it 1/2 the price, but still very expensive. I went to the waterless cookware site and decided to give Maxam 9 a shot. It took 2 months to get, but the pans are good heavy quality, very easy to clean, and keep the food moist. Waterless cooking, however, takes patience to get right and you are likely to burn some meals if you stick to the time guidelines in the book. I've had them for about two monts now and finally got rid of all of the old teflon and rusty pans...they aren't coming back. I've cooked with the Townecraft pans before and you aren't going to see enough of a difference to warrant 6-8 times the price. Maxam 9 (World's Finest) is almost as good and won't kill your budget. As Zig Ziglar says "It's easier to justify cost once, than apologize for quality forever" The price is more than what you are going to pay in WalMart, but the cost over a lifetime will be much, much lower because you won't buy pans again.

information on set that lasts for 30 days

UPDATE: On exactly the 30th day of purchase, while cooking, the skillet lid valve fell out of the lid into my skillet. I am getting a replacement and hope it was just a fluke and not indicative of quality of every set.2nd UPDATE: The replacement fell apart within 30 days in the same manner as my first set. The steam valve fell out of the lid into the pan. I am returning for refund. The scorched particles should easily lift off. If a stubborn burn has been created, partly fill the pan with water and bring to a boil. use a wooden spoon to remove such burned particles. If a stain still remains, it can easily be removed with a good stainless steel cleaner." I haven't had much burn in my pan because i am not frying in them or using over high heat, I am following the directions for low-pressure waterless oil-less cooking.

Waterless cookware

This cookware is a delight to use. Roasts are very tender. Vegetable cook with almost no water. Oatmean and Puddings cook without sticking.

Works well but has limitations.

I've had this unit for over a year now and haven't used it a great deal but enough in supplimental cooking to get a pretty good feel for it. I originally bought it as the recomended induction unit by Cook's Illustrated to get a feel for cooking with that kind of heat because it seemed like such an effective use of technology. My unit came with the removable piece that purportedly allows you to use non-magnetic cookware - well, it does - but so poorly as to be nearly useless in my estimation.The cooktop itself generally worked very well, heated water very quickly, had a broad range of capabilities with the time, heat level, and temperature controls. I found two limiting factors that reduced the value of the unit to me.First, the cooktop controlls heat by cycling on and off like a microwave rather than a continuous application. I was unable to simmer effectively (like oatmeal).Second, the actual heat input of the cooktop is a small (around 4 inches) diameter central ring rather than the large diameter outside ring covered by the accessory plate in the illustrations. This results in a small area of sometimes intense heat. I was not able to effectively saute or brown foods other than in the center of my cast iron dutch ovens making a stew a tedious operation.There may be a way around these limitations but the documentation that accompanied the unit provided no hint.

Wow! I'm amazed at Max Burton 1800W Induction Cooktop

I've bought this induction cooktop as I was thinking about installing a natural gas generator indoors. I said why not, since water heater, furnace and my dryer all use gas. In doing research, I've discovered unhealthy side effects of cooking with gas due to chemicals in what I thought was a "clean" burning gas. They recommend running the exhaust fan when using gas to cook. I bought this burner on impulse; long story short, I'm blown away.My little experiment. Took 2 quarts of 50 degF tap water, filled in identical Cuisinart Multiclad pro 3qt pots. Gas stove against the induction cooktop, thought it was going to be a blowout with gas taking cake. Induction burner on high and gas was on medium high that the flame was starting to lick the outside of the pot. It took the Max Burton 11 minutes to bring the pot to a roaring boil, stove....very long 24 minutes. I've also took temperature measurements along the way, using my trusty instant read thermometer. This will be a time saver for me!I like the instant setting changes and immediate response by the pot. This also has temperature setting, you can set the cooktop anywhere from 140 to 450 degF, no guessing here if you want to simmer all day. Very energy efficient. Perhaps I'm going to give some thought to replacing practically new gas range to induction after this experiment.I've heard about plastic case cracks, so I've spent a bit more and went with the stainless steel model. Since I have induction ready cookware, I don't intend to use the insert, except when I need to use non-stick pan (which is not very often). Fan noise is definitely audible, like a large tower computer noise, but definitely much less than a hair dryer. I can still have a normal conversation while cooking.I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to expedite cooking, easy clean up, and versatility controls via 1-10 setting or 140-450 degF setting. I'm going to get another one after a week or so. Yes, I'm an engineer...home experiments interests me especially when I encounter unexpected surprises.Update after 1-month use: I find the temperature setting much more effective. Settings are a bit coarse if one uses power setting or temperature setting exclusively, but may find the combination acceptable. All day cooking is not possible, as the cookware automatically shuts after about three hours. Yes, I made good on my original review; ordered the second unit today.

6050 Induction Cooktop

I love this cooktop! When I need to cook something fast - it's great! I love the ability to change the cooking temp too..not just Hi, low & medium.I take it with me in the RV too.. sooo much faster than using the propane stove, and portable if I want to cook outside. The only bad thing was that I had to buy a cookware set that was magnetic conductable.(If a magnet will stick to the bottom of the pans) Using the included adapter was useless, the water never would have boiled. With the right cookware,(we actually tested this) it does only take a pan of water 90 seconds to be at a full boil. That's faster than a microwave!
